The Middle Division Science Department at Horace Mann School is seeking a dynamic, innovative, and dedicated Middle School Science Teacher to join our collaborative team.
Our teachers work together to deliver a cohesive and rigorous academic program for students in grades 6-8.
The ideal candidate will teach a variety of science subjects, including astronomy, life science, geology, chemistry, physics, and physical science, while enhancing our already engaging lesson plans, hands-on laboratory experiences, and assessments.
They will communicate complex scientific concepts clearly and effectively, evaluate student progress, and provide meaningful, constructive feedback.
Beyond the classroom, this teacher will stay current with developments in science education to continually strengthen their practice.
The ability to develop a year-long 8th grade elective course with an emphasis on chemistry and physics is also desirable.
Experience working with a diverse community of learners and working with students on developing a greater appreciation and deeper understanding of difference is a must.
Candidates should also be highly motivated and passionate about making a difference in students' lives.
Additionally, each MD teacher also serves as an advisor, the essential point-person for students and families.
Advisors deliver programming to students and travel with their advisory for all three years of middle school.
All leave replacement hires will be responsible for covering an advisory for the duration of their contract.
Applicants must demonstrate an eagerness to tend to the social-emotional needs of developing young people.
A Bachelor's degree and teaching experience is required.
