Description

Detroit Country Day School is a private, independent, co-educational, non-denominational, preschool through grade 12, college preparatory school focused on a well-rounded liberal arts education. Emphasis on academics, arts, athletics, and character development is prevalent across the curriculum. DCDS believes diversity, equity and inclusion are educational imperatives for the intellectual, social, and moral growth of every child. We honor the dignity of every human being and value the differences that exist and are expressed throughout our vibrant school.

Position Summary

We are seeking an Upper School English teacher to join our academic community and cultivate students’ intellectual curiosity and love for learning through meaningful relationships. We are seeking an enthusiastic, student-centered educator who is passionate about inspiring students to engage with a range of literary texts, and committed to fostering their critical thinking, reading, and writing skills. The successful candidate will teach grades 9 and 10 and must have an affection for students in this age group, an understanding of their needs and energy, and a willingness to work collaboratively with employees, administration, and parents.

The recent addition of The Studios – three academic and creative spaces offering virtual reality, podcasting, and XR film technology – make this an exciting time to join our humanities faculty.

  • Plan and prepare lessons in order to deliver the curriculum and ensure breadth and balance in all subjects and skills, including reading, writing, speech, vocabulary, and grammar.
  • Establish an engaging, student-centered, discussion-driven learning environment that encourages active participation and collaboration among students.

  • Ability to work collaboratively with colleagues and administration.
