Position Summary

The Upper School Science Department seeks a skillful, dynamic, and student-centered Chemistry teacher. Preference will be given to candidates capable of contributing to the Department’s expanding offerings in Engineering and/or Computer Science.

This is an exciting time to join the DCDS Science Department as two recent additions allow faculty to provide dynamic and unique learning experiences to our students:

  • The Studios – three spaces: the XR Studio, featuring the same technology as The Las Vegas Sphere; The Pod, a podcast/vodcast studio; and The Lab, a virtual reality lab – allow for unique and transformative learning experiences that go beyond the lab.
  • DCDS recently became the only school in Michigan (and 13th worldwide) to offer Stan-X courses and partner with Stanford University bolstering our outstanding science-research program by adding a genetic engineering component.
  • We have added new courses in both Engineering, Computer Science, and Robotics, including Engineer Your World, VEX Robotics, Machine Learning, and Data Mining.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Teach Chemistry, giving students a rich and dynamic experience with the concepts and laboratory techniques in the field.
  • Develop and implement engaging lesson plans that meet the needs of diverse learners.
  • Contribute to the Department’s expanding offerings in Engineering and/or Computer Science.

Requirements

  • Master’s degree in Chemistry, Engineering, or Computer Science, or a related field.
  • Teaching experience in Chemistry, Engineering, or Computer Science, preferably in an independent school setting.
  • Ability to teach a variety of courses, including AP and Honors classes.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Experience with technology integration and innovative teaching methods.
